What is RoboCMO?
First of all, congratulations! Against all odds, you found your way to what will undoubtedly become your favorite newsletter. If someone sent you here, either by direct recommendation, a social post, or a derisive comment (“Where’d you hear that nonsense, RoboCMO?”), thank them once for you and once again for me.
This is a newsletter about startup b2b marketing, AI in marketing, solopreneur life, and dad life, broadly writ. I’ll publish about once per week.
So, should you even be reading this?
The majority of advice I read on solopreneur positioning tells you to develop your content, offers and products around a tight niche. Having cartoonishly specific expertise/subject matter allows your content to stand out as being the “best-fit” for people with that interest.
And yet much of the expert advice also tells you to play Moneyball, to run counter-trend, to zig when everyone else is zagging…Do you feel like you just solved one of those puzzles in The Da Vinci Code?? Same here!
The RoboCMO community is meant to be a big(ish?) tent. If you are a non-Marketing founder who needs tips for creating your Marketing function, you are in the right place. If you are an early stage marketer who is cool with taking some lessons from an old guy, same. If you are running your own soloprenuer business or want to, this is for you. If you want content about how to be a better leader, teammate, spouse, parent, son/daughter, and thinker - fantastic.
This will not be a newsletter on deep cut technical aspects of specific marketing functions or technical aspects AI. It will hopefully help a lot of marketers who want to leverage AI but don’t know where to start, because I will be reporting on tools as I learn them.
Cost
This newsletter is free to everyone for now. Maybe at some point in the future it will make sense to have a paid version. I can only dream.
Value
One of the core tenants of RoboCMO will be to provide value with every communication. I will not post or publish to meet some arbitrary frequency goals. If I’m putting something into the public square, it will be because I think there’s a significant number of people who can benefit from it.
In that spirit, here’s a quick rundown on the AI that has been used so far in this newsletter:
Profile pic - I used an app called Lensa that allows you to upload a bunch of selfies to generate profile pics in 15 or so different styles: Magic School (think Harry Potter), Ancient Greece (think demigod), Old Money (think…old money), etc…the RoboCMO profile pic is in the “Armoured” style (shout out to Jeniffer Frigo for the rec).
Other pics - I used one of the Armoured Lensa pics to seed prompts on Midjourney. I had to go through far more prompts and time than I’m comfortable sharing (we just met!) to get the characters and settings that I wanted, but:
In what pre-AI world would a non-designer have been able to create these images in less than eternity?
I think that time to finished product will rapidly decrease over the next 5-10 episodes, probably to the 30-60 mins range.
Until Next Week,
TB
